Painting plein air in Penang island
Paint brushes, paints and canvases as companions we arrived at a small fishing village, Heavy with heat fisherman rested on hammocks and s few children played with buckets filled with the nights rainfall.
With over 80% humidity and in the 30s setting up and painting at the fishing village took some energy. My face was continually moist but somehow managed to coordinate brain, hand and sticky paint until the rains cane crashing down. After lunch with rain belting down on the tin roofed shelter the sun was even hotter.
Other days painting took us to Penang's Unesco world heritage centre. Under the shelter of a tree I articulated the flaking pastel low rise buildings and Chinese temples with fiery dragons. Finally I gave into the heat and joined the Indonesian artists for iced milo under the shade of a cafe awning cooled by fans.
